I think you guys have gotten a working introduction to my roommate Laura. She's been in a whole lot of my posts recently because I absolutely adore her. So, I know that you know that she is Canadian, adorable, soft-spoken... have I mentioned she's a black belt?
*Gasp*
Didn't think so!
Yup. Laura can kick all of our behinds. Sneaky!
Obviously, karate is something she's very passionate about, to have stuck with it long enough to be that bad ass. So, when she asked me to come to the Student Martial Arts Club with her, I went in a show of solidarity (because, as repeatedly mentioned, I love my Canadian).
disclaimer- I didn't take these pictures. I found them on the S.M.A.C. facebook page... I'll have to keep an eye out for any of the two of us from yesterday!
How intense does she look? Go, Laura, go!
Erin went last year! She was volunteering and working yesterday so didn't join the fun, but I'm sure she will next time!
This is definitely an example of something I really love about college- trying the most random things just because you can! I have next to zero martial arts training (I think I have a white belt that they gave out for showing up after school in second grade). The only kicking I've done is of a soccer ball and the only hitting I've done is of a gate (ski racing). BUT! The student instructors were amazing and I felt like I knew what I was doing (at least a little bit) by the end!
They also made a couple comments along the lines of "we love Laura!" and "She really knows what she's doing!" Anyone who says such wonderful things about my roommate is good in my books, so I'll definitely be going back!
