smilingrid: chopping it all off

chopping it all off

Cancer is a pretty universal evil. Pretty much anyone you come into contact with on a regular basis has been touched in some manner by this horrible affliction.

Thankfully, there are so many organizations working for a cure and trying to make the day-to-day lives of cancer patients easier.

Two such organizations are Locks of Love and Pantene Beautiful Lengths.
They both take hair donations to make into comfortable and beautiful wigs for patients undergoing chemotherapy. It's something that is really easy to do, both websites give clear directions and requirements for anyone willing to make the cut.

My hair grows ridiculously long ridiculously quickly so I find myself going through cycles of growing it out and then chopping it off for either of these organizations. The main difference between the two (as far as I can tell), is that the minimum requirement for Pantene is 8 inches while the same requirement for Locks of Love is 10 inches. Both do amazing things for people who are suffering and I am 10000% behind that!

So, this past week I donated my hair again!
My mom has a friend who runs what amounts to an amazing salon from her basement. She fills up months in advance, and my mom only very reluctantly gave up her coveted spot with Robin for me to get "the full treatment" (the person with the appointment before ours ended up being a no-show, so my mom and I both left pampered and happy).

I asked Kitty to take a few "before" pictures of my hair when we were baking the other day.

As you can see, that's a LOT of hair

My mom went a little crazy with the "after" pictures...
(even though she has no idea how to work an iPhone camera)

I think she might love my new hair cut even more than I do!

And that is saying a TON because I'm a little obsessed. My hair is very thick and heavy so removing that much of it makes me feel a bit like I'm floating. Plus, I just have to keep touching it! It's so short and soft and easy to run my fingers through!

I'm doubly glad that I've cut my hair; first, because it is donated for the benefit of someone going through a rough time, and second, because new hair cuts are just fun! (mostly the first one though, I promise.)
